PhD co-ordinator CAPHRI

The PhD co-ordinator functions as a low-threshold contact point for PhD students and their supervisors. Within CAPHRI, she reports directly to the scientific director and has frequent contacts and consultations with the managing director, policy advisor, PR officer, project managers, manager of the PhD student budget and other members of CAPHRI’s management office. She has the following tasks:

  • Coaching of PhD students (process-oriented)
    • Have an acquaintance meeting with new PhD students
    • Have an annual talk with each PhD student to discuss the progress of the project, the quality of the supervision and their training/development and ambitions
    • Offer help and advice in case of questions and problems of those involved in PhD projects (PhD students, supervisors) and informs the scientific director in case of serious issues
    • Approve the Training and Supervision Plan within 3 months after the start of the PhD student
  • Implement, (further) develop and manage the PhD TRACK system, a web-based database storing all PhD students and their supervisors, with which the progress of PhD projects is monitored, which contains the Training & Supervision Plan, assessment tools for the progress of projects and for the quality of the supervision provided
  • Support the activities of and for PhD students at the annual CAPHRI Research Day (poster sessions, plenary session) 
  • Support the organisation of PhD student-related activities of the CAPHRI PhD student representatives, such as the Spring and Fall Meeting and the annual meeting with new PhD students 
  • Regular contact with the Training Committee of the National Research School CaRe, the programme co-ordinators of the Health Sciences Research Master and of the other CAPHRI Masters 
  • Member of/participating in:
    • Weekly CAPHRI Direction meetings (consisting of the scientific director, director of the management office, policy advisor, PR & Communications officer, PhD co-ordinator, head of secretariat), supporting policy activities when needed
    • CAPHRI Educational Board (consisting of the scientific director, confidential advisor for PhD students, PhD co-ordinator, the 2 PhD student representatives and the PhD student IPC representative)
    • CAPHRI School Council (Programme leaders and Heads of Departments)
    • Interfaculty PhD Committee (IPC) where the 6 FHML Schools regularly meet
    • Meetings with all UM PhD co-ordinators, organised by Frans Willems and Hans Ouwersloot
    • Developing FHML PhD alumni policy together with the 6 FHML Schools and the central UM and FHML alumni office
