Health Education and Promotion

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. But helping people to maintain a healthier lifestyle is not an easy task. Health promotion, as defined by the World Health Organisation, is the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health. This includes:

  • health education
  • making healthy policy
  • creating supportive environments
  • using social marketing approaches
The Master Health Education and Promotion focuses on the systematic development and evaluation of such health interventions at both the behavioural and environmental levels, using data and theory. The Master is interdisciplinary, combining elements of psychology, communications, epidemiology, biomedicine, sociology, political science and management.
