Catharina Pijls Prize for Laura Hochstenbach

Health scientist Laura Hochstenbach has been awarded the Catharina Pijls Prize for her thesis ‘Shared decision-making in gynaecological oncology: An observational study’. Her research focuses on the decision-making process in gynaecological oncology patients, and the extent to which these patients are given the opportunity to participate in treatment decisions.

The prize came as a complete surprise to Hochstenbach, who graduated in August from Caphri’s two-year Health Sciences Research Master: “I’m very happy and didn’t even know that I’d been nominated.”

The incentive prize is awarded to recent graduates, or students soon to graduate, whose research projects contribute to the promotion of health science research at the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences. The projects are judged not just on their practical and societal relevance, but also on their level of innovation and creativity. The award comes in the form of a €2000 cash prize.

“I feel like I’m being rewarded for my efforts”, says Hochstenbach. “But this prize also confirms that the research group is on the right track and that our theme is considered valuable.”
