Edward Dompeling appointed professor
Paediatric lung specialist and CAPHRI researcher, Edward Dompeling, has been appointed professor of Early Diagnosis, Monitoring and Treatment of Lung Diseases in Children.
In the coming years, the new professor will dedicate himself to researching the development of a reliable measurement instrument for the early diagnosis of asthma. He will also focus on better monitoring for children who suffer from asthma and cystic fibrosis. The ultimate goal is to dramatically reduce the number of asthma attacks that these children suffer. “When I look at their quality of life, I see that there’s still a lot of room for improvement”, says Dompeling. The professor also has plans to position Maastricht more as a centre for prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of children with asthma and cystic fibrosis.
Dompeling stresses that, although his emphasis in the coming years will lie on research, he won’t stray far from patient care. “I’ll continue seeing patients, because after all, that’s what it’s all about.”
