Mandatory resuscitation education?

Professor of Cardiology, Ton Gorgels and Mr. Petra Schuffelen have launched a Citizens' Initiative to include resuscitatation education as a mandatory subject within the normal syllabus of Dutch primary and secondary education. This initiative comes from the “resuscitatation education in secondary education” programme  which is part of CAPHRI's 'Redesigning Health Care' programme.

Ton Gorgels: “Resuscitation is not difficult and everyone can learn it. This is possible from group 3 of primary school upwards. If everyone in the Netherlands was capable of performing reanimation, thousands of lives would be saved each year.”

To put this issue on the agenda of the Tweede Kamer, 40.000 declarations of support from Dutch people over 18 years of age are needed. Ton Gorgels: “We can use all the help that we can get to gather these 40.000 signatures. Everyone that supports our initiative can help by signing their names and telling all their family, friends and acquaintances of this initiative.

You can support the initiative by adding your digital signature to the petition on the website www.reanimatieonderwijsverplicht.nl.
