New visiting professor to CAPHRI, Robert West, “at your disposal”!

Professor Robert West, the  most recent visiting professor to join CAPHRI, has been “addicted” to smoking cessation research ever since his first post-graduate position working in this important field.

He currently heads up a research team at the University College London (UCL), primarily funded by the charity Cancer Research UK, which aims to find better ways of encouraging and supporting people who are trying to quit smoking.  Professor West is also the director of the British National Health Service (NHS) Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training, funded by the Department of Health. This centre is concerned with research into the behavioural support provided by the NHS, and considers how to effectively train health care professionals involved in this treatment.

In his interview, Professor West shares some of his fascinating insights into smoking addiction and cessation, in part based on the findings of the 'Smoking Toolkit Study', as well as explaining the paths which have led him to Maastricht and the role he will play in CAHPRI.
