Trainings and courses for PhD students
Training & Supervision Plan
Currently, CAPHRI is preparing a policy document in which specific criteria for the education and training of PhD students will be defined. Each PhD student, internal as well as external, should have a
Training & Supervision Plan
(TSP); signed by the supervisors and agreed upon by the PhD co-ordinator.
CAPHRI finds it important that every PhD grasps the opportunity to develop as researcher and professional during the PhD trajectory and we provide a PhD budget to support this. The TSP should be drawn up in accordance with the competencies you already have and that you need for your PhD. Please discuss the course options with your supervisors to ensure your development as a research professional.
During your trajectory, you need at least learn to master (both at basic and advanced level):
- methodological skills
- statistics and analysis techniques (quantitative and/or qualitative)
- English academic writing and presenting
- project-specific skills and/or knowledge
IMPORTANT:
CAPHRI prefers and highly recommends that, when possible, courses in the form of modules of CAPHRI Masters are followed. These are of high quality and officially accredited. More information and subscription forms can be requested from the co-ordinators of these Masters, to be found on: www.caphri.nl, under the tab 'Education'. Additional course options are listed below.
NB Courses from the Master Epidemiology and Research Master will, starting from the academic year 2012 (September), both be offered as regular master courses (with exam and following the normal 8-8-4 weeks modules sequence) or short (certified) full-time courses with durations between 3 and 5 days during a certain week, which will be easier to follow as PhD student. More detailed information will be posted on the website and sent out to PhD students and supervisors.
